Wetland River Cruise (Proboscis Monkey & Fireflies)

 

Travel south to the Beaufort for a river cruise in search of the wetlands and its wildlife, some of which are endemic to Borneo. These includes the Proboscis Monkey, Long Tailed Macaques, Silver Languor, Monitor Lizard and Myriad species birds that inhabit this unique riverine and wetlands environment.

 

The wetlands and riversbank are inhabited by Bisaya and Brunei Malays, who are primaly farmers and fisherman. You may have chance upon them catching shrimps, crabs and fishes the traditional way. Sago is another important part of the Bisaya diet. You may also participate in the traditional sago making process, where the pith of the sago tree is ground and the starch sago is extracted.

 

Among others you will also have the opportunities to see the wetlands bird by the thousand returning to its sanctuary at dusk which is considered as one of the most beautiful sights of the wetlands. When the sun sets, a spectacular sight of the golden  sky is kissed by the still water of the wetlands. When darkness falls, be amazed by the flickering lights or fireflies like lighted Christmas trees.    

Mantanani Island
 
Mantanani Island are a group northwest of Kota Belud, about 1 hour and 30 minutes of drive from the state of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu. These Island are approximately 45 minutes boat ride by speedboat from the mainland Kuala Abai Jetty. The island, shaped like knife, has a beach that stretches up to 2.5000 meters. Many species of rays flutter around like blue spotted ray and marbled sting ray amongst large schools of fish. Mantanani Scops Owls. Also good for seeing others birds that Usually nest on the island because of the relatively lack of natural terrestrial predators.
SAPI ISLAND
Sapi island are a group northwest of Kota Kinabalu. These island are approximately 25 minutes boat ride by speedboat from the Jesselton Point. Upon arrival On the Island, enjoy swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, water sports activities or explore the island.
